I have been wanting a crappy, old camper I could completely restore for years now! I have lots of crazy dreams for me and my family; some do-able, some not so much! My amazing husband, in his quest to always make me happy, actually goes along with most of them! Live at the beach for a summer: ✔️Become a Stay At Home Mom:✔️ Grow his hair out past a buzz cut: ✔️ Buy me a camera, sewing machine, embroidery machine and silhouette so I can create my own business: ✔️ Purchase a pink ice cream truck so Callie K and I can drive around selling ice cream: ❌ Get a crappy, old camper I can completely restore and take our family camping any time we can: ✔️
We got a 1989 Jayco Jay Series Double Wing Pop Up! The canvas is hole-y, ripped, dry rotted and needs to be replaced. It smells! We cranked it open and I immediately thought "Aww it smells like the deer lease." My husband immediately said "It smells like butt and mildew." Apparently we have a different sense of smell or our deer lease bunk house lovingly smelled like mildew and butt. Jayce felt the need to tell everyone that walked past our driveway that we were airing it out because it smelled followed by Tanner excitedly telling them we were going to camp at beach all the time (a boy after my own heart 😘) followed by Callie K. asking everyone to come inside our camper and "take a look around."
Everything cosmetic needs to be redone but it has good wheels and tires and the AC works! Which is the most important part anyways right?!? The husband and I sat inside for a good 30 minutes (until our little princess took the whole camping thing a little too seriously and decided to "pop a squat" in our front yard.) He claims to not be excited but we sat in there and made plans of what we could do and dreamed of where we would go. We came inside and "pinterested" our hearts out. Within an hour we had fabric for the seats picked out, paint color for cabinets, a new faucet for the sink, new flooring, memory foam mattress pads, curtains and even a new canvas sitting in shopping carts across the Internet waiting on funds. And waiting for a while they will probably be but it's still fun to dream with your husband about plans for your family!
Boo for the weather forecast though as cold and rainy is all that's in our future! I want to go scrub grime but can't! Who even says that?!?
I plan on blogging the complete restoration process here and then our travels as we go! If for nothing but my daughter to read in the future and become inspired by her parents DIY attitudes! :-)
